Agricultural Technology Presentations

Objective:
To recognize FFA members who have explored and utilized computers and other technologies in agriculture and agribusiness.  Emphasis is placed on the practical applications of technology and computers/software programs in agriculture/agribusiness.

A. Rules and Regulations
1. This event is open to all FFA members in good standing who are regularly enrolled in agricultural education at or above the ninth grade level during one or both semesters and who have not won the state Agricultural Technology event.
2. Each chapter may enter two individuals in the event.  A video tape of the demonstrations must be received by the State FFA Office by March 1.  The tape must include an appropriate introduction of the individual.
3. Finalists will be selected for the state event based on quality of presentations (maximum of 12).  No district/area lines will be considered.
4. Each event participant should wear official FFA dress as outlined in the Official FFA Manual.
5. Participants may not participate in the State Agricultural Demonstration event during the same year.
B. Procedures
1. The participant should present a specific technology or software program application that could be used by persons in agriculture/agribusiness.
2. Each participant shall use not more than 10 minutes and not less than 8 minutes in length.  A penalty of 1 point per second will be assessed for undertime and/or overtime.  An additional five minutes will be allowed to answer questions asked by the evaluators.
C. Steps to Follow in Presenting a Demonstration
1.  Introduction–Introduce the topic, situation, and members of the team.
2. Motivation–The participant should generate a desire and inform the audience as to the case of the technology in agriculture.
3. Presentation–Each participant is expected to bring her/his own computer, technology equipment, hardware/software, and audio-visual equipment.  Charts, graphs and posters may be used to provide the audience with better understanding of the need or benefit for the technology to be demonstrated.  Each participant is expected to provide her/his own registered copies of all software.
4. Conclusion–Summarize important points.  The conclusion should leave audience informed of the use of the technology in the agricultural industry.

1. State - All participants participating in the state career development event will be designated as gold, silver, or bronze medal recipients.
