Quiz Bowl Jr-High |
Junior High Agricultural Quiz Bowl
Objective: To serve as a vehicle for agricultural literacy by allowing
junior high students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of
the agricultural industry and to encourage the development of this
knowledge through educational competition.
A. Rules and Regulations
1. This event is open to any seventh or eighth grade student from a
school with an approved agricultural education program.
2. Each team will consist of four members from the same school.
3. There is no limit to the number of teams that a school may enter on
the district level. Teams will be invited to the state competition based
on the number of total teams registered. Every attempt will be made to
accommodate all teams for the state competition.
4. The questions used in this activity will deal with basic knowledge of
the agricultural industry. Different questions will be used for each
round of the competition as is possible.
B. Procedures
1. Teams will be assigned to compete in a round-robin tournament to
determine the overall winners. The placement will be pre-drawn prior to
the tournament. The competition will be a double elimination tournament.
2. Each round of competition will consist of five questions for each
team member. One individual from each of eight to ten different teams
will compete at one time. The first individual to answer the question
correctly will receive a point. If no individual answers correctly, no
point is awarded. In case of a tie, an overtime will be used where the
first individual to answer a question correctly will determine the
winning team.
3. Team members will each have the buzzer control in their hand prior to
the start of the questioning.
4. The first individual to press the buzzer will have the opportunity to
answer the question. Individuals do not have to wait until the entire
question is asked before pressing the buzzer. The Quiz Bowl coordinator
must stop reading the question when someone "buzzes in." If the answer
is correct, a point is awarded and the coordinator moves on to the next
question.
5. If the answer to the question is incorrect, the question is reread
and the other individuals are given a maximum of 10 seconds to answer.
If no answer is given, the question is dropped and the next question is
read.
6. Any sharing of answers will result in the team losing a point. If an
answer is provided from the audience, the question will not count for a
point and will not be replaced in the rotation. A team may be declared
ineligible if caught cheating during the event.
C. Awards Recognition
District¾Certificates will be awarded to all that participate. A minimum
of the top four teams will represent the district in state competition.
Alternates will be named to compete if other districts do not fill their
slots.
State¾Trophies will be awarded to the first and second place teams.
Certificates will be awarded to all participants.
