WLC
Each year, more than 2,300
young people and teachers from across the country spend a week in Washington,
D.C., developing their character and relationship-building skills, learning
about the hottest new agricultural careers, making friends, setting a vision,
visiting their congressional representatives and touring our nation's capital as
part of the FFA Washington Leadership Conference (WLC). In addition to the
student sessions, there are special session for teachers on leadership training,
careers and creative teaching techniques.
The conference focuses on
training students how to be a positive influence in their chapters, schools and
communities. Part of being an effective leader is strong communications skills,
so the focus is also on communicating in various styles - informative,
persuasive and appreciative.
Character and vision are also major
focus areas. Good leaders have character and the conference helps students
understand the components of character and how they can serve as role models to
others. Plus, students are helped to understand that persons of influence have a
vision and that their personal vision should be based around their interests,
experiences and values.
The Nebraska FFA Association sponsors
several Scholarships available for members.
